FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

UNDERCART, EXPLAINED.

Straight answers about what Undercart is, how its revenue estimates work, what it covers, and how to build on it.

What is Undercart?

Undercart is a business-intelligence platform for Shopify stores. It maintains enriched profiles of hundreds of thousands of Shopify merchants — each with a composite revenue estimate, a detected technology stack, advertising presence, social reach, product-catalog stats, and contact data — and exposes them through a web dashboard, CSV export, a REST API, and a Chrome extension.

How are Undercart's revenue estimates calculated?

Revenue is a modeled estimate, not reported or audited financials. Undercart combines several independent signals using confidence-weighted averaging: the size and average price of the product catalog and its review velocity; the tier and count of detected apps and technologies; estimated advertising spend multiplied by a return-on-ad-spend factor; and total social following. Each signal produces its own estimate with a confidence score, and the composite is weighted toward the more confident signals. Estimates are benchmarked against a curated truth set of stores with known revenue, and every figure carries a confidence level so you can judge how much to trust it.

How many Shopify stores does Undercart cover?

Undercart has discovered hundreds of thousands of live Shopify stores by continuously scanning public web-crawl data for storefronts running on Shopify. Discovered stores are enriched with a full profile on demand and re-crawled on a schedule so revenue and tech-stack changes stay current.

How is Undercart different from Storeleads or BuiltWith?

BuiltWith is a general web technology-detection tool that reports the stack of almost any website; it does not model store revenue. Storeleads is a Shopify store directory focused on catalog and firmographic data. Undercart is Shopify-specific and combines three things in one profile: technology detection tuned for Shopify apps and pixels, a composite revenue estimate benchmarked against a known-revenue truth set, and advertising presence across the major ad libraries — all queryable through a REST API and a Chrome extension.

Does Undercart have an API?

Yes. Undercart offers a REST API at https://undercart.co/api/v1. You authenticate with an API key sent in an X-API-Key header, then search and filter the store catalog by revenue, technology, category, country, or growth, fetch a full profile for a single domain, and bulk-export filtered results as CSV or JSON. Full documentation with endpoints and examples is at https://undercart.co/docs/api.

Does Undercart have a Chrome extension?

Yes. The Undercart Chrome extension shows the enriched profile — revenue estimate, tech stack, ad presence, and more — for any Shopify store you are browsing, and helps surface newly discovered stores back to the platform.

Does Undercart have an MCP server?

Yes. Undercart ships a remote Model Context Protocol connector at https://undercart.co/api/mcp, which works with any MCP client that supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP — Claude, Cursor, VS Code and others. Add the URL as a connector and sign in over OAuth (no API key to copy), or authenticate with an X-API-Key header for MCP Inspector and scripted clients. Agents can then query stores in natural language: search by revenue, technology, category or country, pull a full store profile, find similar stores, and view a store's actual ads and captured marketing emails. It exposes the same enriched data as the REST API. Setup instructions and the full tool list are at https://undercart.co/docs/mcp.

Is Undercart's data free?

Undercart has a free plan that includes 100 store lookups per month with full revenue and tech-stack data. Paid plans add higher lookup volumes, the REST API, bulk CSV export, and change tracking.
